PRIOR LAKE, Minn. – Play during the opening round of the 2018 Minnesota Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship was suspended at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday due to darkness. The opening round will resume at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and the second round will begin at 8 a.m. as scheduled.

Prior to the suspension Tuesday, Jordan Hawkinson carded a 7-under par 65 at Willinger’s Golf Club to take the clubhouse lead three by three strokes over defending champion Trent Peterson.

Hawkinson, from Dellwood Country Club, rolled in a pair of early birdies to start the first round Tuesday before carding three consecutive birdies to begin his back nine. Finishing the day with back-to-back birdies on his final two holes, Hawkinson posted a 65 to grab the early lead.

“I hit the ball well most of the time and had a couple of mistakes, but minimized the mess by hitting it on the green,” Hawkinson said Tuesday. “I was in control of my irons well and I really only missed one iron on 17.”
