Smith, Waverek and Four Others Qualify for MGA Amateur Championship

GLENWOOD, Minn. – Shooting an even par 72 Wednesday at Minnewaska Golf Club, Karter Smith and Dakota Waverek shared medalist honors and both qualified for the Minnesota Golf Association Amateur Championship.

The qualifier was held to determine the field at this year’s 111th championship and will be played July 21-23 at Golden Valley Golf and Country Club in Golden Valley, Minn.

Smith, Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Waverek, Staples, Minn., qualified for the tournament along with Austin McCulloch, Alexandria, Minn., and Scott Lewison, Maple Grove, Minn., both of whom carded a 2-over par 74.

Jerry Rose, Alexandria, Minn., and Chad Hartman, Plymouth, Minn., also qualified as they both finished at 2-over par 74 as well.

Tyler Whiting, Alexandria, Minn., and Glenn Lickness, Roseau, Minn., finished as first and second alternates, respectively.
