Baker Medals to Lead Cloquet Boys to First Class AA Team Title

 JORDAN, Minn. – Carding the low round of the tournament with a team tally of 298 during the final round Wednesday, the Cloquet High School boys’ golf team claimed an 18-stroke victory at the 2021 Minnesota State Boys’ Class AA Championship at Ridges at Sand Creek for the first team title in school history.
 
The Lumberjacks were led by senior Sam Baker, who also posted the tournament’s low score during the final round, a 4-under 68 to begin the championship Tuesday and followed it with a 1-over 73 during Wednesday’s final round to claim medalist honors at 3-under 141.
 
Karson Young, an eighth-grader at Cloquet, fired a 5-over 149 to place fifth, while sophomore Karson Patten contributed by shooting 10-over 184, including a 74 during the final round.
 
Staples-Motley High School senior Beck Erholtz carded back-to-back rounds of 71 to finish one shot behind Baker in second place at 142, while New London-Spicer junior Peyton Coahran placed third at 1-over 145.
 
Totino-Grace High School posted a team tally of 616 Wednesday to finish second in the team competition, two shots better than the boys from Delano High School, who finished third.
