Four Minnesotans Head Home After Two Rounds at U.S. Mid-Amateur

 BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Eric Deutsch and Dylan Gergen were among four Minnesotans who qualified for the 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship in July, but will head home after two rounds of qualifying, missing the cut for match play by three shots Sunday at Saucon Valley Country Club.

Deutsch, Rochester, Minn., opened the championship with a 4-over par 75 Saturday on the West Course before finishing the second round with an eight over par 79, missing the cut by three shots at 154.

Gergen, Medota Heights, also missed the cut by three strokes Sunday carding a 4-over par 75 during the opening round Saturday and followed it with an 8-over par 79 during the final qualifying round Sunday.

Mark McLaughlin, Minneapolis, Minn., carded an 8-over par 79 during the opening round Saturday before shooting a 6-over par 77 during the final qualifying round, failing to advance to match play by five strokes.

Lakeville, Minn., native Austin Eaton III began the opening round of the championship with a 5-over 76, but would miss the cut by six strokes after carding at 10-over par 81 during Sunday’s final qualifying round.

Scott Harvey, Greensboro, N.C., and Brad Nurski, St. Joseph, Mo., shared medalist honors Sunday as the two both finished at 1-under par 141. Bill Williamson, Cincinnati, Ohio, finished third at even par 142.

The top 64 players advanced to the match play portion of the tournament with the final match scheduled to finish Thursday at Saucon Valley Country Club.
