Klasse Wins Fourth Straight Senior Women's State Amateur Title

  GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. -- For the fourth time in four years Leigh Klasse captured the Minnesota Senior Women's  State Amateur Championship as she carded a final round 72 Tuesday to cruise to a nine-stroke victory at Pokegama Golf Course.

After an opening round 69, the three-time MGA Senior Women's Player of the Year carried a three-stroke lead into the final round and never faltered as she wins the senior amateur for the fourth time and notches her fourth win of the season. Klasse, Keller Golf Club, now has nine Top 10 finishes this season.

Brenda Williams, Windsong Farm, carded a final round 3-over par 74 to finish at 150, while two-time winner Claudia Pilot, Cragun's Resort, finished third at 152.

Barbara Patrow,  Prestwick Golf Club, held on to her slim opening round lead to win the First Flight by posting a 7-over par for the second consecutive round to finish at 156, five strokes better than her nearest competitors.

Finishing in a tie for second place were Kathy Hubert-Wyss, Forest Hills Golf Club, Audrey Richmond, Burl Oaks Golf Club, and Sue Mahle, Brookview Golf Club, all of whom finished at 161.

In the Second Flight, Melanie Jaeb, University Golf Club, and Krystal Lawson, Forest Hills Golf Club, shared medalist honors as both women finished at 171. Fran Page, Keller Golf Club, finished in third at 174.

In the Third Flight, Sue Olafson, Braemar Golf Course, hung on to her one-stroke lead after the opening round to earn medalist honors by one stroke after she carded a final round 92. Betty Friesen, Brookview Golf Club, finished in second place at 180, while Janet Hanson, Stillwater Country Club, finished third at 182.

Renee Christensen, Forest Hills Golf Club, earned medalist honors in the Fourth Flight as she finished at 185, five-strokes better than second place finisher Betty Walz, Forest Hills Golf Club, at 190. Sue Pratt of New Prague Golf Club finished third at 192.
