EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – Teammates three weeks ago at the Minnesota Golf Association Senior Women’s Four-Ball Championship, Leigh Klasse and Lynn Anderson will go head-to-head Wednesday when the two tee off in the championship match of the 2017 MGA Senior Women’s Amateur Match Play Championship at Bent Creek Golf Club.
Anderson jumped out to a big lead early over Brenda Williams during the semifinal match Tuesday, thanks to a pair of early bogeys by Williams.
Bouncing back to win the 10th and 11th holes, Williams pulled within two of Anderson, but the defending Minnesota Women’s State Open champion took the 12th and 13th holes before clinching the match at the 15th, 5 and 3.
Klasse faced Barbara Miller in the other semifinal match Tuesday and it was Miller who struck first by winning the second hole with a par. Klasse fought back to even the match on the ensuing hole and took the lead after a second bogey by Miller at the sixth.
A steady Miller capitalized on a pair of bogeys by the seven-time MGA Senior Women’s Player of the Year to win the seventh and eighth holes before Klasse rolled in her birdie look at the ninth to turn even with Miller.
Klasse played the back at even par, winning the 13th, 14th and 16th holes to earn a 3 and 2 victory to advance to play Anderson in the final.
The 2017 MGA Senior Women’s Amateur Match Play Championship concludes Wednesday with the final match set to begin at 8:18 a.m. at Bent Creek Golf Club.
