Pilot & Williams Share 1st-Round Lead with Flynn & Nagel in Senior Four-Ball

July 23, 2012 | 1 min.

RED WING -- Claudia Pilot, who has won the Minnesota Women's State Senior Four-Ball three times in four tries, and Brenda Williams, who's 1 for 2, produced a 69 at Red Wing GC on Monday and are tied for the lead in this year's Senior Four-Ball with the Hazeltine National team of Mary Flynn and Jill Nagel.

Pilot, who became eligible for this tournament when she turned 50 in May of 2007, joined forces with Mary Hoisser in '08, and they won the title two years running.

When Pilot's longtime four-ball partner Williams became eligible in 2010, they paired up and won. Pilot and Williams are also three-time winners of the regular Women's State Four-Ball.

Hoisser is also 3 for 4 in the Senior Four-Ball. She has played with Leigh Klasse as her partner the past two years, and last year they won by six strokes (over Pilot and Williams) at The Bridges in Winona.

Klasse and Hoisser shot 71 on Monday and are two strokes back in third place.

Nancy Blanchard and Sue Liberty are another shot behind, in fourth place.
