BECKER, Minn. – Led by underclassmen Mason Kretsch and Maverick Winklemann, Springfield High School posted a team score of 323 to take a five-stroke lead over Community Christian after one round of play at the 2019 Minnesota State High School Boys’ Class A Tournament at Pebble Creek Golf Club.
Kretsch fired a 3-over par 75 and finished the opening round of play in third, while Winklemann’s round of 77 put him in a tie for fourth place with Lac Qui Parle Valley’s Harrison Patzer.
Making its fifth state tournament appearance this week, Springfield moves one step closer to capturing its second team title, winning the first state championship in school history in 2011.
Community Christian was helped by Brett Reid’s round of even par 72 as the sophomore will take a two-stroke lead over Park Christian senior Alex Iverson. Reid is looking to build on a third-place finish from a year ago.
