The Minnesota Golf Association Foundation Women’s Scholarship and Jim Mendesh Memorial Scholarship committees recently awarded academic scholarships to five deserving young men and women: Parker Hintz of Conger, Mila Jenniges of Redwood Falls, Zach Meyer of St. Augusta, Fernanda Ossa Letelier of Willmar and Taylor Raether of Cologne.
Parker Hintz graduated from Alden-Conger High School and is attending North Iowa Area Community College to study heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC). He was on the varsity golf team for three years and was an all-conference honorable mention his junior year. In addition to golf, he was on the varsity basketball and football teams from freshman to senior year, holding the title of team captain his senior year on both teams. Hintz’s goal is to become a certified HVAC technician and one day start his own business in the field.
Mila Jenniges graduated from Redwood Valley High School and is attending Minnesota State University, Mankato, majoring in dental hygiene and playing on the women’s golf team. She started playing in competitive tournaments when she was 11 and has now competed in several MGA events, including the 2024 MGA Women’s Amateur Championship where she finished in a tie for 21st place. Following school, Jenniges wants to educate people on the importance of oral health and plans to provide underprivileged and minority communities with access to dental care through volunteering.
Zach Meyer graduated from Annandale High School and is attending Saint Cloud Technical and Community College where he is studying construction. His passion for golf came after working at the Kimball Golf Club and has blossomed into him being on the varsity golf team his junior and senior years. He played one-handed for a full season after a snowboarding accident and now plays two-handed, breaking the score of 40 on 9 holes for the first time this year. Following graduation, he plans to work for Mammoth Home Services, which provides a variety of services to homeowners.
Fernanda Ossa Letelier graduated from Willmar High School and is attending the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, majoring in physics and playing on the women’s golf team. She started playing golf her freshman year, when she quickly made the varsity team and was named captain of the squad during her junior and senior seasons. Ossa Letelier plans to obtain her bachelor’s degree and pursue a master’s degree in civil engineering with hopes to own her own construction company one day.
