RED WING -- It took two tries just to get nine holes in on Tuesday, as rain, thunder and lightning shortened the Women's State Senior Four-Ball Tournament to 27 holes. But by then Claudia Pilot and Brenda Williams had separated themselves from the field by four strokes and won this title for the second time in three years.
The weather forced a delay, and teams in the Championshhip Flight went off with a shotgun start on the front nine.
They had to be called off the course once and sent back out just to complete the nine. When it was done, Williams and Pilot had shot a 35. That, combined with their first-round 69 from Monday, gave them a total of 104.
Last year's champions, Leigh Klasse and Mary Hoisser, posted a 37 and took second place with a 108.
Nancy Blanchard and Sue Liberty had a 38 and tied for third at 110, along with first-day co-leaders Mary Flynn and Jill Nagel.
This was Pilot's fourth Senior Four-Ball championship. She won twice with Hoisser before Williams turned 50 and became eligible.
Williams and Pilot also won the regular State Four-Ball three times.
