Bennett, spent a 32-year career with AT&T. After retiring in 1986, Bennett pledged to devote “most” of his time to serving public golf. Indeed, a quick glance at Bennett’s contributions to the game reveals the pledge fulfilled and more. The next year, after a long stint as an officer at Greenhaven Golf Club, he was appointed to the United States Golf Association’s Public Golf committee, which automatically made him a director of the MGA. A former director of the Minnesota Public Golf Association, he served on the tournament committee when the 1992 National Public Links Championship came to Edinburgh USA in Brooklyn Park. Later, Bennett chaired the 2004 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at Rush Creek. He joined the MGA course rating team in 1990, and except for service on the MGA Executive Committee, including serving as president from 1998-2000, Bennett has rated more than 850 courses, including 60 in the Philippines. He joined the USGA Executive Committee in 1993 and currently serves on its regional affairs committee. A former director of the Western Golf Association, Bennett was a hobby clubmaker for 25 years.
