Reed K. Mackenzie

Mackenzie has been contributing to the game on the local and national scene for more than 40 years and first became involved in United States Golf Association affairs with the Junior Amateur Championship Committee in 1977. He served as 57th president of the USGA from 2002-2003 and lead the professional staff and more than 1,200 volunteers who serve on more than 30 committees. Mackenzie has been active as a Rules official since becoming a USGA volunteer, and he has officiated at every U.S. Open since 1978. In all, he has officiated at nearly 70 USGA championships. His other USGA appointments have included chairing the Junior Amateur Championship Committee, Handicap Committee, Implements and Ball Committee, and the Rules of Golf Committee. Mackenzie’s efforts in Minnesota have been just as important as his national contributions. Locally, Mackenzie was the general chairman of the 1991 U.S. Open held at Hazeltine National Golf Club, his home club. The following year, he became a member of the USGA’s Executive Committee.  He has been an MGA director since 1978 and was president of the MGA from 1988-1990.  Through his volunteering efforts, achievements, appointments and service in support of the game both locally and nationally, Mackenzie has truly exemplified the spirit of this prestigious award. It is only fitting that he receive an award bearing the name of Warren J. Rebholz, the man who got Mackenzie started in volunteer work for the game of golf over two and a half decades ago.
