Staver, a long-time resident of “The Range” in Virginia and Duluth and an avowed traditionalist when it comes to golf, has generously given his time and talents bettering the game. In 1997, the Iron Ranger received the prestigious USGA Joe Dey Award in recognition of his meritorious service to the game of golf as a volunteer. Staver’s idea to reorganize and condense the Decisions on The Rules of Golf book made it a valuable resource that could be carried by officials on the golf course. He has officiated at more than 25 USGA championships and is a member of the USGA’s Green Section and Mid-Amateur Championship committees. Staver has served as an MGA tournament volunteer since 1982, and was president of the Northland Country Club in Duluth, Minn., 1994-1995.
