Additional Information

The inaugural Minnesota State Junior Championship was conducted in 1924. The Championship continued until 1975 with the sponsorship rotating between different organizations.  Beginning in 1976, the medalist at the MGA Junior Championship was recognized as the State Junior Champion.  Finally in 2002, the MGA re-established the Minnesota State Junior Boys' Championship.

The list of past champions reads like a "who's who" in Minnesota golf with the likes of Pat Sawyer, Rolf Deming, Bob Barbarossa, Don Waryan, Bill Israelson, Jon Chaffee, Aaron Barber and Clayton Rask all claiming a title.

In 2011, Jon DuToit (Chanhassen) fired a 2-under par 32 on the last nine and posted an even-par 70 in the final round to catch first round leader Karter Smith (Detroit Lakes) after 36 holes.  Both players finished regulation with a total of 144, 4-over par over the 6,468 yard, par 70 Rochester Golf & Country Club course. In the playoff, DuToit took care of business quickly, making a par on the first hole to claim the title.

Matt Cichoski of St. Louis Park was alone in third at 148.  Dominic Kieffer (Byron) and Alex Kapraun (Rochester) tied for fourth at 149.  Three other golfers - Miles Death (Plymouth), Connor Hedlund (Byron) and Freddy Thomas (Lakeville) - were another stroke back at 150.  Rounding out the top ten were Andrew Kimble (Roseville) and Logan Palmer (Harwood, ND) at 151.  Defending champion Thomas Strandemo finished at 153 in a tie for 16th.
