Additional Information

This event is a counting event for the WAGR (World Amateur Golf Ranking) System.

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT:
Championship & Senior Flights:  54-holes, individual stroke play
Master & Grand Master Flights:  36-holes, individual stroke play

The Champion will be the person with the lowest 54-hole total from either the Senior or Master Flights.  In the event of a tie for the Championship, there will be a hole-by-hole playoff immediately following the conclusion of play.  A tie for first in any other flight will be broken by a scorecard playoff as recommended by USGA policy..

There will be a cut to the low 48 scorers and ties after 36 holes from the combined Senior and Master flights.  Those players will play an additional 18 holes on Day 3.

Schedule:
Monday, September 9:  Round 1 Starting times begin from #1 & 10 tees at 8:00 am and 12:30 pm.
Tuesday, September 10:  Round 2 Starting times begin from #1 & 10 tees at 8:00 am and 12:30 pm.
Wednesday, September 11:  Round 3 Starting times begin 8:00 am

NOTE 1:  Round 1 Starting times will be available after registration has closed.  Master and Grand Master Flights will play in the afternoon on Day 1 and in the morning on Day 2.

Flights:
The Championship will consist of three flights.  Players are assigned to a flight based on the player's age on the first day of the Championship:
  • Senior Flight: 55-64
  • Master Flight: 65-74
  • Grand Master Flight: 75 and above
NOTE: A player who is 75 or above may elect to play in the Master Flight, but must notify the MGA in writing prior to the entry deadline.

Practice Rounds:
Practice rounds will be available for $50 (walking; cart is $30 per person).  To schedule a practice round, please contact the Edina Country Club Golf Shop (952/927-5775) and identify yourself as an MGA Senior Amateur contestant.

Driving Range:
Range balls will be provided prior to play each day at the Championship Site.  The range will open at least 60 minutes prior to play.

Food and Beverages:
A Players' meal will be available to all players after their round at no cost on Day 2.

Accommodations:
The Hilton Garden Inn - Bloomington West is the host hotel for the Championship.  A flyer with specific details is posted under the "Resources" header on the Championship webpage.  The HGI is conveniently located about 5 miles south of Edina CC off American Boulevard at the intersection of Highway 100 and I-494.

QUALIFYING FORMAT
At each site, the number of successful qualifiers will be determined by using the percentage of needed qualifiers relative to the number of players attempting to qualify. For this year, at the close of entries, we need 72 spots out of a total of 122 players entered, or 61.29%. We then multiply the number of players at each site by the 59% to get the number of players who will qualify. Thus, we get the following number of qualifiers:

Site                       # of Players          # of Qualifiers             Course Rating
Tianna                 12 players                   7 (7.08)                        71.5
Wapicada         33 players                 20 (19.47)                       71.0
Heritage Links   77 players                 45 (45.43)                      71.3

In the event of a tie for the final qualifying position(s), a playoff of all players at that score will occur on the course. This will be used to determine the successful qualifiers ONLY.

As for the Alternate positions, ties will be broken by using the first method listed in Section 5d: Matching Scorecards found in the Committee Procedure Section of the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf (found on pages 403-404).

In addition, an Overall Alternate List will be created and used in the event an Exempt Player withdraws. All non-qualifiers will be on the list. Players will be ranked based on their “Differential”; that is, their score shot in qualifying less the course rating (see above) of their qualifying course. This may result in several players from the same qualifying site getting in prior to another site.

For example, Bob shoots a 78 at Tianna, his Differential is 6.5, while Doug shoots 78 at Wapicada, his Differential is 7.0. Bob will rank higher on the Overall Alternate List.
